LAI students successfully introduced legislation that will allow exonerees access to tuition grants to pursue their education. Illinois Senate Bill 223 passed out of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in May 2015. The bill allows exonerees to apply for education grants which will provide full tuition at any public university or public community college in Illinois. Additionally, the bill will also allow exonerees to use funds for a GED prep course as well as for payment of the GED test itself. The full text of the bill can be found here.
