With another school year concluded, Life After Innocence was faced with the prospect of saying goodbye to two outstanding student members. LAI directors and exonerees alike turned out to show their support for Shamoyita Dasgupta and Jamison Howard as they donned their graduation cap and gowns last month. While Shami and Jamison will no longer be student members at the clinic, we look forward to their continued contributions as LAI alumni.
However, quick to fill the void come three exceptional new members for the summer and beyond. Be sure to read their bios and get to know them:
Katie Burnett: Katie is a rising 2L, and this is her first semester volunteering for LAI. She is splitting her summer between an externship at the Northern District of Illinois and an internship at Nixon Peabody, and has plans to pursue a certificate in advocacy.
Carly Chocron: Carly is a rising 3L at Loyola Law, currently working at the Cook County Public Defender’s Office at 26th and California. After law school, she hopes to work as a public defender, and one day potentially be a civil rights attorney.
Alexis Pavlatos: Alexis is a rising 2L, commuting from the Northwest suburbs and interning in a small, corporate firm in the West suburbs. She is pursuing her J.D., M.P.P., and hopes to pick up a certificate in advocacy and international law. In her spare time, she likes experimenting in the kitchen, working as a dog sitter, and going out with friends.
